A Lion Facing Forward, Mane Sculpted Strand by Strand
This lion head ear cuff features the animal face-on, mouth closed, with a mane worked strand by strand around the muzzle. The volume is real: the tufts stand out from the base instead of being suggested by engraved lines. The piece clips onto the cartilage, with no piercing required. Find this product in our Viking earrings collection.
For another animal portrait in the same style, the owl cuff plays the same frontal card.
What Sets This Piece Apart
A miniature animal portrait is judged by the legibility of the face, not the quantity of details.
- Relief mane: the strands are modeled in volume, which creates shadows and prevents the design from looking flat.
- Defined muzzle: the snout, nostrils, and lip line are deeply recessed, so the head remains recognizable from a distance.
- No piercing: the open ring adjusts with your fingertips and can be removed at will.
- Stainless steel: the grooves of the mane retain their contrast without oxidizing.
For a more discreet feline, the fox cuff remains in the animal motif category with less bulk.

Did you know?
There were never any lions in Scandinavia—but Scandinavians did indeed touch lions, and they left their mark. A large marble lion guarded the port of Piraeus, near Athens. It is now located in front of the Venice Arsenal, where it was taken in 1687, and its flanks bear a long inscription engraved in Swedish runes, winding through the characteristic interlacing of the 11th century. It was left by Varangians, those Nordic warriors who served the Byzantine Emperor. The text is too eroded to be read in its entirety, but a few names emerge. A Greek lion, engraved by Vikings, exhibited in Italy: few objects tell the story of the extent of their travels better.

Does the lion have any meaning in Norse culture?
Not as a symbol. However, Varangians, Norse warriors in the service of Byzantium, carved runes on the great marble lion of Piraeus in the 11th century — the statue is now in Venice. The link is historical, not mythological.
Is the ear cuff heavy?
No. It is denser than the wire-thin models because of the volume of the mane, but it stays below the point where the cartilage gets tired. Adjusting the opening properly is enough to keep it steady.
Can it be worn on both ears?
You receive the pair. Many people wear only one: a piece this size is more than enough on a single ear.
How do I clean the recesses of the mane?
A soft toothbrush, warm water and a little mild soap. Rinse and dry with a cloth: it is the skin oil built up in the recesses that dulls the contrast, not the metal.
