Armor That Weighs Nothing
This Viking sweatshirt mimics leather armor: a brown breastplate with visible stitching, a wide buckled belt across the waist, crossed straps, and dark sleeves. Everything is printed on ordinary polyester knit fabric. Find it in our Viking sweatshirt collection.
The same design approach exists in a chainmail version on the chainmail and Yggdrasil model.
A Print, Not Armor — Let's Be Clear Right Away
This garment relies on illusion, and an illusion is quickly disappointing when it isn't announced. So, to be clear: the surface is perfectly smooth. There is no texture, no leather stitching, no metal rivets, no buckles. What you see is an image printed flat on fabric, like any patterned sweatshirt. The effect works from a distance and in photos; up close, it is clear that it is a print. We prefer that you know this before ordering rather than when you open the package.
What Sets This Sweatshirt Apart
A trompe-l'œil is only as good as the quality of its original design.
- Credible cut: the breastplate, belt, and straps are placed where they would actually fall on a torso, which is not the case for all prints of this kind.
- Detailed brown: the leather is rendered in several values, with worn areas and dark patches, rather than a uniform flat color.
- Contrasting sleeves: the arms are intentionally darker than the breastplate, which accentuates the effect of a separate piece of gear.
- Sweatshirt comfort: no straps, no weight, no chafing — this is the obvious advantage over a real piece of equipment.

Did you know?
The studded leather armor worn by the fictional Viking warrior has no archaeological basis. Leather does not preserve well, but Scandinavian burials have yielded no breastplates, brigandines, or anything resembling them. What we do find are fragments of chainmail — the one from Gjermundbu, Norway, discovered in 1943, remains to this day the only nearly complete Viking chainmail known. The rest of the fighters likely wore simple quilted wool clothing and a shield.

Which print style to choose?
| Print type | What it looks like | When to choose it |
|---|---|---|
| Placed design | The body of the sweatshirt stays plain: the design is limited to the chest, the sleeves and the back. | When you want to wear the garment without the design ruling your day. It is also the only model available in fourteen color and ink combinations. |
| All-over print this product | The fabric is printed before assembly: front, back, sleeves, hood and right up to the seams. | When the garment is meant to be seen. Fifteen different designs, all in polyester, from 2XS to 4XL. |
| All-over print, finer artwork | The same full coverage, but a more detailed drawing and an acrylic, polyester and elastane knit. | When you look at a garment up close before buying it, or if polyester alone feels too stiff. Sizes up to 5XL, and up to 6XL for the zip-up model. |
Choosing your size
The manufacturer provides no size chart for the sweatshirts in this range. We would rather tell you so than publish a measurement chart we would have made up.
The method that never fails: take a sweatshirt you already wear and that fits you well. Lay it flat and measure from one armpit seam to the other. Write this number down: it is your benchmark. You are comparing one garment with another, without going through a theoretical size, and theoretical sizes are precisely what vary from one manufacturer to another.
The cut runs small: narrower in the shoulders and shorter in the body than a European cut of the same size. If you are between two sizes, take the larger one: this is the advice that avoids the most returns.
A word about the letters. Beyond XXL, these labels follow no common standard: a 4XL, 5XL or 6XL has no fixed equivalent, and the same letter does not mean the same thing from one manufacturer to another. Do not trust the letter, trust the centimeter.
Is there really any leather on this sweatshirt?
No, none at all. The leather, stitching, rivets and belt buckle are entirely printed on a polyester knit. The surface is perfectly smooth: nothing sticks out, nothing can be felt.
Is the belt removable?
No, it is part of the print. There is no buckle, no strap and no added piece on this garment.
Does the effect work in real life?
Yes, from several meters away — that is the whole point of trompe-l'œil. Up close, you can see right away that it is a print, and we prefer to say so before you buy.
Can it be worn as a reenactment costume?
For a theme party or a festival, yes, the effect works well. For demanding historical reenactment, no: it is not a period garment.
