Odin in Blood Red
This Viking sweatshirt features the figure of a helmeted Odin framed by his two ravens, but renders it entirely in deep red against a black background. The interlace patterns surrounding him, the birds' wings, and the foliage on the sleeves are in the same ink, so the garment features only two values: the black of the background and the red of the design. Find it in our Viking sweatshirt collection.
The same composition is available in black on a light background in the black and white model, which is much brighter.
What Sets This Sweatshirt Apart
Red on black is the most difficult contrast to achieve in textile printing: if not balanced correctly, it turns brown or pink.
- A blood red, not a bright red: the ink remains deep, which prevents the gaudy effect that a primary red would produce on black.
- Two values only: no gray, no white. The garment is built entirely on the contrast between black and red.
- Covered sleeves: the foliage patterns extend down to the cuffs on both sides, giving the garment its density.
- The figure remains prominent: despite the density of the interlace, the helmet and ravens remain immediately identifiable.
To stick with red but with a more raw motif, see the confronting dragons model.

Did you know?
According to the Gylfaginning and the Grímnismál, Odin has more than fifty names — Grímnir "the hooded one," Bölverkr "worker of evil," Váfuðr "the wanderer," Hangatýr "god of the hanged." This proliferation is not merely poetic ornament: it serves the heiti technique, where the skald refers to his subject by a substitute to satisfy the alliteration of the verse. A 10th-century listener had to know these names to follow a poem — the catalog was a tool for comprehension as much as it was a divine attribute.

Which print style to choose?
| Print type | What it looks like | When to choose it |
|---|---|---|
| Placed design | The body of the sweatshirt stays plain: the design is limited to the chest, the sleeves and the back. | When you want to wear the garment without the design ruling your day. It is also the only model available in fourteen color and ink combinations. |
| All-over print this product | The fabric is printed before assembly: front, back, sleeves, hood and right up to the seams. | When the garment is meant to be seen. Fifteen different designs, all in polyester, from 2XS to 4XL. |
| All-over print, finer artwork | The same full coverage, but a more detailed drawing and an acrylic, polyester and elastane knit. | When you look at a garment up close before buying it, or if polyester alone feels too stiff. Sizes up to 5XL, and up to 6XL for the zip-up model. |
Choosing your size
The manufacturer provides no size chart for the sweatshirts in this range. We would rather tell you so than publish a measurement chart we would have made up.
The method that never fails: take a sweatshirt you already wear and that fits you well. Lay it flat and measure from one armpit seam to the other. Write this number down: it is your benchmark. You are comparing one garment with another, without going through a theoretical size, and theoretical sizes are precisely what vary from one manufacturer to another.
The cut runs small: narrower in the shoulders and shorter in the body than a European cut of the same size. If you are between two sizes, take the larger one: this is the advice that avoids the most returns.
A word about the letters. Beyond XXL, these labels follow no common standard: a 4XL, 5XL or 6XL has no fixed equivalent, and the same letter does not mean the same thing from one manufacturer to another. Do not trust the letter, trust the centimeter.
How does it differ from the black and white model?
It is the same figure of Odin framed by his ravens, but rendered in red on a black background instead of black on a light background. The result is noticeably darker and more aggressive.
Is the red bright or dark?
It is a deep blood red, not a bright red. It stands out against the black without turning neon.
Does the design cover the sleeves?
Yes, the red knotwork continues down both sleeves to the cuffs, flowing on from the shoulders.
Is this sweatshirt warmer than a light-colored model?
No, it is the same fabric and the same thickness. The color makes no difference to warmth.
