A Dragon Coiled in its Circle
This Viking dragon t-shirt encloses a Nordic dragon-serpent within a silver runic medallion: the body curls upon itself, the paws dissolve into the interlacing, and the border alternates between runes and ringed crosses. The rendering is chiselled, almost metallic, like an enlarged belt plaque. Find this model in our Viking t-shirt collection.

What Sets This T-Shirt Apart
A dense, fine-line motif requires a sharp print, otherwise it collapses into a grey smudge from two meters away.
- Chiselled lines: the scales and interlacing are outlined one by one, which keeps the pattern legible even from a distance.
- Closed composition: the dragon is contained by the circle: the silhouette remains crisp instead of fraying into the black.
- Runic border: the crown of runes and ringed crosses provides scale and ties the motif to the Nordic vocabulary.
- Cotton: for a fine-line print, cotton offers a more even surface than synthetics and limits micro-cracking.
In the same vein of circular chiselled motifs, the silver Yggdrasil under the moon shares the same engraved treatment.
Choosing Your Size
The manufacturer does not provide a size chart for this model. Rather than leaving you without a reference, here is an estimated range, calculated from two adult grids documented for other models in this department. These are orders of magnitude, not guaranteed measurements — we prefer to be upfront about it.
| Size | Flat Width | Chest Circumference |
|---|---|---|
| S | 49 to 51 cm | 98 to 102 cm |
| M | 51 to 54 cm | 102 to 108 cm |
| L | 53 to 57 cm | 106 to 114 cm |
| XL | 55 to 60 cm | 110 to 120 cm |
| 2XL | 57 to 63 cm | 114 to 126 cm |
| 3XL | 59 to 66 cm | 118 to 132 cm |
| 4XL | 61 to 69 cm | 122 to 138 cm |
| 5XL | 63 to 72 cm | 126 to 144 cm |
| 6XL | 65 to 75 cm | 130 to 150 cm |
The range widens for large sizes because the two known grids diverge starting at XL: one increases by 4 cm per size, the other by 6.
The foolproof method: take a t-shirt you already own that fits you well. Lay it flat and measure from one armpit seam to the other. Apply this number to the Flat Width column: no calculations required. You are comparing garment to garment, without relying on a theoretical size — and it is precisely these theoretical sizes that vary from one manufacturer to another.
The cut runs small: narrower in the shoulders and shorter in the body than a European cut of the equivalent size. If you are between two sizes, choose the larger one: this is the advice that prevents the most returns.
A word on the letters. These sizes follow a specific nomenclature, and beyond XXL, French ready-to-wear barely uses them: a 4XL, 5XL, or 6XL does not correspond to any common French size. Worse, the same letter does not mean the same thing from one manufacturer to another: in this department, a "L" can range from 94 to 112 cm in chest circumference depending on the model. Do not trust the letter, trust the centimeter.

Did you know?
What is called the "Nordic dragon" actually belongs to a dated art style: the Urnes style, which spans approximately 1050 to 1125 and owes its name to the carved portals of the Urnes Stave Church in Norway. Its trademark is a ribbon-animal whose body thins until it becomes a thread, coiling, knotting, and crossing itself to the point where one can no longer always distinguish the beast from the ornament. It is the last of the six successive Nordic styles — Oseberg, Borre, Jelling, Mammen, Ringerike, Urnes — and the only one that clearly overlaps with the Christian era: the same intertwined serpents decorate churches.

Is it a dragon or a serpent?
Both, and that is intentional. In Norse art of the Urnes style, the beast is a ribbon-like animal whose legs merge into the knotwork: the line between dragon and serpent is not clear-cut.
Do the runes on the border spell a word?
No, it is a decorative frieze built from runic shapes. We will not read any hidden meaning into it.
Is the print silver or gray?
Light gray ink, with no metallic sheen. The chiseled look comes from the drawing, not the pigment.
Is this design attested in the Viking Age?
The style is, yes: it dates from around 1050 to 1125 and takes its name from the Urnes church in Norway. The design on this T-shirt is a modern interpretation of it, not an archaeological copy.
