Armor of Silver Knotwork
This Viking Mjölnir T-shirt is the busiest design in the range: a Thor's hammer runs down the center of the torso, a Vegvísir fills the chest, two ram's heads frame the collar, and the whole design is bathed in a network of silver knotwork that covers the sleeves and the back. The intended effect is that of a piece of fine metalwork worn right against the body. Find this design in our Viking T-shirt collection.
If this density feels like too much, the tone-on-tone Mjölnir offers the same symbol in a quieter version.
What Sets This T-Shirt Apart
A very dense design only holds together if its masses are ranked: without an anchor point, the eye gets lost.
- Strong central axis: the hammer runs straight down from collar to hem, giving the design a backbone and keeping it from looking cluttered.
- Three shades of gray: the lightest knotwork sits in front, the darkest behind — that is where the depth comes from, not from a raised effect.
- Sublimation: it is the only technique capable of rendering such a fine line across the entire surface of a garment.
- Lightweight polyester: the fabric stays supple despite the full coverage, where a screen print of this size would turn stiff as cardboard.
For colored rather than silver knotwork, the red and gold medallion shifts the balance toward color.
Choosing Your Size
These measurements are those of the garment laid flat, not of your body. The width is measured from one armpit seam to the other; the chest circumference is that width multiplied by two. Allow one to two centimeters of tolerance: these garments are measured by hand. The manufacturer does not provide the XS measurement.
| Size | Flat width | Chest circumference |
|---|---|---|
| XXS | 48 cm | 96 cm |
| S | 50 cm | 100 cm |
| M | 53 cm | 106 cm |
| L | 56 cm | 112 cm |
| XL | 59 cm | 118 cm |
| 2XL | 62 cm | 124 cm |
| 3XL | 65 cm | 130 cm |
| 4XL | 68 cm | 136 cm |
| 5XL | 71 cm | 142 cm |
The foolproof method: take a T-shirt you already own that fits you well. Lay it flat and measure from one armpit seam to the other. Compare that number with the Flat width column: no math needed. You are comparing a garment with a garment, without going through a theoretical size — and it is precisely theoretical sizes that vary from one manufacturer to another.
The cut runs small: narrower in the shoulders and shorter in the body than a European cut in the equivalent size. If you are between two sizes, take the larger one: that is the advice that prevents the most returns.
A word about the letters. These sizes follow their own lettering system, and beyond XXL, French ready-to-wear hardly uses them at all: a 4XL, a 5XL or a 6XL does not correspond to any common French size. Worse, the same letter does not mean the same thing from one manufacturer to another: in this section, an “L” ranges from 94 to 112 cm in chest circumference depending on the model. Don't trust the letter, trust the centimeter.

Did You Know?
The finest Thor's hammer found to date carries its own legend. Discovered in 2014 at Købelev, on the Danish island of Lolland, it is made of cast bronze and dated to the 10th century. On one face is a runic inscription: hmar x is, which translates as “this is a hammer.” It is the only pendant of its kind in the world that names itself — and in doing so it settles an old archaeological debate: until then, some researchers argued that these objects might represent something other than a hammer. Their owners, for their part, knew perfectly well what they were wearing.

Is the design just as busy on the back?
Yes. The knotwork covers the back and the sleeves at the same density as the front. It is the most fully covered style in the section.
Is the fabric stiff because of the print?
No. Sublimation does not add any layer: the garment keeps exactly the softness of unprinted polyester.
Is the Vegvísir an ancient symbol?
No, and we say so throughout the site: the Vegvísir only appears in an Icelandic manuscript compiled in 1860, eight centuries after the Viking Age.
What is the most famous Thor's hammer?
The Købelev hammer, found in Denmark in 2014, which bears the runic inscription “this is a hammer.” It is the only one in the world that names itself.
