A Triquetra on a Light Background
This Viking Triquetra t-shirt places the three-pointed knot at the center of the chest, set atop an upright sword and surrounded by a network of black interlacings that cover the light background of the garment. The print is all-over: the design extends to the shoulders, sleeves, and back. Find this model in our Viking t-shirts collection.
For a three-pointed symbol treated in black rather than white, see the Valknut between two crows.
What Sets This T-Shirt Apart
On a light background, the density of the black determines everything: too little, and the garment looks empty; too much, and it becomes illegible.
- Planned voids: the design allows light areas to breathe around the central knot, which prevents the whole from turning into a black block.
- Vertical sword: a straight axis behind the knot, which provides a reading direction and avoids a limp circular composition.
- Sublimation: the finest lines of the interlacing come through clearly, even on the sleeves and seams.
- Lightweight polyester: a light background that does not yellow and dries quickly, unlike white cotton.
If you prefer a denser treatment of the same interlacing vocabulary, the silver Mjölnir and Vegvísir covers everything.
Choosing Your Size
These measurements are for the garment laid flat, not your body. The width is taken from one armpit seam to the other; the chest circumference is this width multiplied by two. Allow for a tolerance of one to two centimeters: these garments are measured by hand. The manufacturer does not provide measurements for XS.
| Size | Width flat | Chest circumference |
|---|---|---|
| XXS | 48 cm | 96 cm |
| S | 50 cm | 100 cm |
| M | 53 cm | 106 cm |
| L | 56 cm | 112 cm |
| XL | 59 cm | 118 cm |
| 2XL | 62 cm | 124 cm |
| 3XL | 65 cm | 130 cm |
| 4XL | 68 cm | 136 cm |
| 5XL | 71 cm | 142 cm |
The foolproof method: take a t-shirt you already own that fits you well. Lay it flat and measure from one armpit seam to the other. Enter this number in the Width flat column: no calculations to make. This way, you are comparing garment to garment, without relying on theoretical sizing—and it is precisely these theoretical sizes that vary from one manufacturer to another.
The cut runs small: narrower in the shoulders and shorter in the body than a European cut of an equivalent size. If between two sizes, choose the larger one: this is the advice that prevents the most returns.
A word on the letters. These sizes follow a specific nomenclature, and beyond XXL, standard Western ready-to-wear rarely uses them: a 4XL, 5XL, or 6XL does not correspond to any common standard size. Worse, the same letter does not mean the same thing from one manufacturer to another: in this department, an "L" can range from 94 to 112 cm in chest circumference depending on the model. Do not trust the letter, trust the centimeter.

Did you know?
The triquetra is not a specifically Nordic symbol, and it is useful to know this before wearing it as such. The three-pointed knot appears first in Insular Christian art: it is found in the Book of Kells, on Irish crosses, and on 8th-century Anglo-Saxon manuscripts. It then reached Scandinavia via the same channel as other interlacing motifs, at a time when trade between the British Isles and the North was intense. It is found engraved on Scandinavian objects from the Christian era, notably on late Swedish runestones. A shared symbol, then, rather than a Viking symbol.

Is the triquetra a Viking symbol?
Not originally. It comes from Insular Christian art — the Book of Kells, Irish crosses, Anglo-Saxon manuscripts — and reached Scandinavia through contact with the British Isles.
Is the background plain white?
No: the network of black knotwork covers most of the surface. The light areas give the design room to breathe.
Is the design the same on the back?
It's continuous but not symmetrical: the knotwork carries on from the front to the back over the shoulders.
Is this model suitable for summer?
It's one of the best suited in this section: light background, lightweight polyester, quick drying.
