A Valknut Guarded by Two Ravens
This Viking Valknut t-shirt places the three-triangle knot in the center of the chest, framed by two ravens with outstretched wings, with a Vegvísir and runic staves in the lower area. The entire design is printed in black on a light background, covering the whole garment. Find this model in our Viking t-shirts collection.
For the same trio of symbols treated in screen printing on black cotton, see the Valknut and two ravens in cotton.
What Distinguishes This T-Shirt
Combining three symbols on a single garment requires giving them very different sizes, otherwise none of them dominates.
- Clear hierarchy: the Valknut is the largest, the ravens frame it, the Vegvísir occupies the background — the eye knows where to land.
- Open wings: both birds spread their wings outward, which visually broadens the shoulder line.
- Sublimation: the fine lines of the feathers remain crisp across the entire width of the bust, even near the seams.
- Lightweight polyester: a light background that does not yellow over washes, unlike white cotton.
The raven alone, treated in a very large format on the back, can be found on the back-print model.
Choosing Your Size
These measurements are for the garment laid flat, not your body. The width is taken from one armpit seam to the other; the chest circumference is this width multiplied by two. Allow for a tolerance of one to two centimeters: these garments are measured by hand. The manufacturer does not provide measurements for the XS.
| Size | Flat width | Chest circumference |
|---|---|---|
| XXS | 48 cm | 96 cm |
| S | 50 cm | 100 cm |
| M | 53 cm | 106 cm |
| L | 56 cm | 112 cm |
| XL | 59 cm | 118 cm |
| 2XL | 62 cm | 124 cm |
| 3XL | 65 cm | 130 cm |
| 4XL | 68 cm | 136 cm |
| 5XL | 71 cm | 142 cm |
The foolproof method: take a t-shirt you already own and that fits you well. Lay it flat and measure from one armpit seam to the other. Enter this number in the Flat width column: no calculations needed. This way, you are comparing garment to garment, without relying on a theoretical size — and it is precisely these theoretical sizes that vary from one manufacturer to another.
The fit runs small: narrower in the shoulders and shorter in the body than a European cut of an equivalent size. If you are between two sizes, choose the larger one: this is the advice that avoids the most returns.
A word on the letters. These sizes follow a specific nomenclature, and beyond XXL, standard French ready-to-wear clothing hardly uses them: a 4XL, 5XL, or 6XL does not correspond to any common French size. Worse, the same letter does not mean the same thing from one manufacturer to another: in this range, an "L" can go from 94 to 112 cm in chest circumference depending on the model. Do not trust the letter, trust the centimeter.

Did you know?
The Valknut is one of the rare Norse symbols whose existence in the Viking Age is guaranteed by archaeology — but its name is modern. "Valknut" was coined in Norwegian in the 19th century from valr (slain in battle) and knut (knot); no medieval source names it. The sign appears notably on the Stora Hammars I stone, in Gotland, next to a scene that most researchers interpret as a sacrifice, and on a bedpost found in the Oseberg ship. It is this repeated association with death and Odin that forms its common interpretation — a solid interpretation, but one that remains a reading.

Does the word Valknut date from the Viking Age?
No. The symbol is well attested in the Viking Age — the Stora Hammars I stone on Gotland, the Oseberg ship — but its name was coined in Norwegian in the 19th century.
How is it different from the cotton model?
This one is polyester with an all-over print on a light background. The other is a white screen print on black cotton, with a cleaner design.
Do the ravens have names?
Odin's ravens are called Huginn and Muninn, “thought” and “memory”. The design of this T-shirt refers to them without naming them.
Does the light background get dirty easily?
The black design covers most of the surface, which limits the effect. The collar is still the area that shows dirt first.
