Three Triangles and Two Birds
This Viking Valknut t-shirt reduces the composition to the essentials: a Valknut inscribed within a circle, two ravens perched on either side, all in white lines on black. No background, no texture, no secondary colors—the design speaks for itself. Find this model in our viking t-shirts collection.
The full-print version of the same trio can be found on the white full-print model.
What Sets This T-Shirt Apart
A line drawing without fill is the most honest type of motif: there is nothing to hide poor construction.
- Unifying circle: the Valknut is placed on a ring that passes through both birds: the three elements form a single figure, not three juxtaposed motifs.
- Perched ravens: depicted in profile and at rest rather than in flight, which gives the motif a calmness that is rare in the genre.
- Clean white line: a constant thickness, legible from a distance without becoming heavy up close.
- Cotton: the material that best renders a white line on black, without the plasticized effect of printed synthetics.
For a Valknut rendered in textured masses rather than line art, see the Warrior Valknut.
Choosing Your Size
The manufacturer does not provide a measurement chart for this model. Rather than leaving you without a reference, here is an estimated range, calculated from two adult grids documented on other models in the department. These are orders of magnitude, not guaranteed measurements—we prefer to be upfront about that.
| Size | Flat Width | Chest Circumference |
|---|---|---|
| S | 49 to 51 cm | 98 to 102 cm |
| M | 51 to 54 cm | 102 to 108 cm |
| L | 53 to 57 cm | 106 to 114 cm |
| XL | 55 to 60 cm | 110 to 120 cm |
| 2XL | 57 to 63 cm | 114 to 126 cm |
| 3XL | 59 to 66 cm | 118 to 132 cm |
| 4XL | 61 to 69 cm | 122 to 138 cm |
| 5XL | 63 to 72 cm | 126 to 144 cm |
| 6XL | 65 to 75 cm | 130 to 150 cm |
The range widens for larger sizes because the two known grids diverge starting at XL: one progresses by 4 cm per size, the other by 6.
The foolproof method: take a t-shirt you already own and that fits you well. Lay it flat and measure from one armpit seam to the other. Apply this number to the Flat Width column: no calculations needed. This way, you are comparing garment to garment, without relying on a theoretical size—and it is precisely these theoretical sizes that vary from one manufacturer to another.
The fit runs small: narrower in the shoulders and shorter in the body than a European cut of the equivalent size. When between two sizes, choose the larger one: this is the advice that prevents the most returns.
A word on the letters. These sizes follow a specific nomenclature, and beyond XXL, standard ready-to-wear rarely uses them: a 4XL, 5XL, or 6XL does not correspond to any common standard sizing. Worse, the same letter does not mean the same thing from one manufacturer to another: in this department, an "L" ranges from 94 to 112 cm in chest circumference depending on the model. Do not trust the letter, trust the centimeter.

Did you know?
There are two different Valknuts, and almost no one distinguishes between them. The first is unicursal: the three triangles interlace in a single continuous line, like Borromean rings—this is the shape found on the Oseberg bedpost. The second is tricursal: three distinct, overlapping triangles, each closed on itself—this is the shape found on the Stora Hammars stones in Gotland. Both are attested to, about a century apart, and nothing suggests they had the same meaning. Most modern reproductions mix the two without realizing it.

Are there several forms of the Valknut?
Two. The unicursal form, drawn in a single continuous line as on the Oseberg bedpost, and the tricursal form, made of three separate triangles as on the Stora Hammars stones. Both are attested.
Is the design large?
It spans the width of the chest, from the edge of one pec to the other. It is a generous print, but not a very tall one.
How is it different from the all-over print model?
This one is a white screen print on black cotton, on the chest only. The other is a polyester shirt with an all-over design on a light background.
Will the white turn gray?
Not if you wash it inside out at 30 °C without fabric softener. It is the friction of the design against the drum that wears the ink, not the temperature.
