A Skull Perched on a Pink Drop
These skull stud earrings stack two registers that have no business being together: a small engraved skull on top, a pink teardrop stone just below. It is a deliberate contrast — the macabre and the tender on eight millimeters of earlobe. Find this product in our Viking earrings collection.
The same construction with a red stone can be found on our skull and red zircon studs.
What Sets This Pair Apart
Stacking a motif and a stone on a stud takes precise balance.
- Skull on top: the motif sits on the upper part of the lobe, where the eye lands first, and the stone serves as its base.
- Teardrop stone: the elongated shape draws the eye downward and visually lengthens the stud.
- Push-back clasp: a single post for the whole piece, placed behind the skull to balance the weight.
- Stainless steel: the contrast between the cold metal and the warm stone does not change over time.
For the skull alone without a stone, our polished steel skull studs get straight to the point.

Did you know?
The famous crystal skulls, long presented as Aztec or Maya relics, are 19th-century fakes — and it was microscopes that proved it. The British Museum examined its own under an electron microscope: the surfaces bear regular, parallel striations, the telltale signature of a rotary wheel, a tool that pre-Columbian Mesoamerica did not use. The Smithsonian reached the same conclusion for its own specimen, and mineralogical analysis pointed to Brazil or Madagascar as the source of the quartz, out of reach of Aztec workshops. Most of these objects came out of German workshops in Idar-Oberstein and passed through the hands of the Parisian dealer Eugène Boban. So a skull can be truly beautiful and entirely made up — which, for a piece of jewelry, is no problem at all.

Is the skull visible despite its small size?
Yes, at conversation distance: the eye sockets and jaw are deeply cut, which creates sharp shadows. From farther away, it is mostly the stone that stands out.
Isn't pairing a skull with pink contradictory?
It is, and that is intentional. The contrast between a macabre motif and a soft-colored stone is a classic device in Gothic jewelry, which keeps the piece from being merely dark or merely pretty.
What is the total height?
Just under one centimeter, skull and stone included. The stud stays on the earlobe without extending past it.
Is this model unisex?
Yes. Both men and women wear it, even if the pink stone tilts it slightly toward a feminine look. The skull restores enough balance that it is not confined to one gender.
