A Pink Stone in a Setting That Isn't
These pink zircon stud earrings play on contrast: a light oval stone set in an openwork steel setting with detailed scrollwork. The setting isn't a plain ring — it draws a pattern around the stone, which takes these studs beyond the strictly classic. Find this product in our Viking earrings collection.
If you prefer the same color in a bare setting, take a look at our round prong-set studs, which are more understated.
What Sets This Pair Apart
On a gemstone stud, everything comes down to the setting and the light that passes beneath it.
- Openwork setting: light passes through the pattern beneath the stone instead of hitting a solid back, which avoids the dull look of closed settings.
- Oval cut: longer than the classic round, it follows the line of the earlobe and looks larger for the same surface area.
- Push-back closure: a post that goes through the ear and a back stopper, with no moving part to snag.
- Stainless steel: the setting doesn't darken and leaves no green mark on the skin.
For a darker stone in an equally detailed setting, see our openwork crown studs.

Did you know?
A word on vocabulary, because it misleads a lot of people. True zircon is a natural mineral, zirconium silicate, and it also happens to be the oldest terrestrial material ever dated: crystals taken from the Jack Hills, in Western Australia, have been dated to 4.4 billion years — barely a hundred million years after the formation of the Earth itself. But the “zircon stone” found in fashion jewelry is almost never this mineral: it is cubic zirconia, a zirconium oxide developed in the lab by Soviet researchers in 1976. That is the case here, and we would rather say so than let the word create an illusion.

Is the stone a real zircon?
No, it is cubic zirconia, a synthetic stone. We prefer to make this clear: the word “zircon” is used everywhere in costume jewelry for this material, but the natural mineral of the same name is something else.
Can the pink color fade over time?
The color runs through the whole stone rather than sitting on its surface, so it does not wear off. What can dull it is a film of skin oil or hairspray on the facet: a rinse in warm soapy water brings back its sparkle.
Is this style more on the feminine side?
The pink stone does lean it toward a rather feminine look, but the openwork steel setting is anything but dainty and looks great on a man's earlobe too. It is a matter of taste, not a rule.
How big is the stone?
The oval measures about six millimeters at its longest; including the setting, the whole piece is close to one centimeter. It is a noticeable size, but it sits on the lobe without extending past it.
