A Six-Petal Rosette With a Red Stone at the Center
These rosette stud earrings spread six finely worked petals around a red zircon set at the heart of the motif. The design is regular, almost geometric, and it is this rigor that keeps it from becoming yet another predictable floral jewel. Find this product in our Viking earrings collection.

What Sets This Pair Apart
A symmetrical motif forgives no flaw: the slightest crooked petal shows.
- Six even petals: the spacing is exact, which keeps the motif readable even at a small size.
- Set center stone: the zircon is held by prongs at the center, not glued into a recess.
- Carved relief: the petals are domed and separated by grooves, so the motif doesn't look flattened.
- Stainless steel: the hollows between the petals keep their contrast without turning black.
For the same red stone on a cross motif, our cross and red zircon studs play the same role.

Did you know?
The six-petal rosette inscribed in a circle is one of the most stubbornly widespread motifs in Europe, and that is no accident: it can be drawn with a compass without lifting the point, by stepping the radius six times around the circumference. Any carpenter with a compass knows how to make it. It is found carved on the lintels, beams and mantelpieces of hundreds of old buildings, where specialists classify it among apotropaic marks — signs drawn to keep evil from coming in. The English call them witch marks. It is not a Viking symbol, but it is a gesture the people of the North would have understood perfectly.

Is this a feminine design?
The floral motif and the red stone lean it toward a feminine look, but the steel setting and the carved relief keep it from being too sweet. It's a matter of taste.
Does the rosette have a meaning?
Specialists in historic buildings classify it among protection marks, drawn with a compass on door lintels to ward off evil. It isn't a Viking symbol, but its purpose echoes that of protection runes.
How big is the motif?
About eight millimeters in diameter. It's visible without being imposing: the whole motif can be made out at conversation distance.
Can the red stone come loose?
No, not with normal use. It's held by folded-over prongs, a mechanical hold rather than glue. Direct head-on impacts remain the only real risk, as with any set stone.
