A Skull Between Two Bat Wings

A skull with long, curved horns fills the center of the bowl, flanked by two spread membranous wings. Below it, a blade lies crosswise. The stem takes the shape of a spine, vertebra by vertebra, down to a bony foot. Two finishes: antique bronze, antique silver. Find it in our Viking chalices collection.

What Sets This Piece Apart

  • Double wall: an outer shell of sculpted resin and a removable inner liner of food-grade stainless steel. Your drink only touches the metal.
  • Openwork wings: they stand away from the wall and cast a shadow onto the cup.
  • Vertebral stem: each vertebra forms a notch for the fingers. It is the most secure grip in the collection.
  • Two patinas, two moods: bronze warms the motif, silver hardens it and makes it more graphic.
  • Weight in hand: 442 g empty. A far cry from a costume-party goblet.

Did you know?

Norse mythology reserves a specific place for those who lived badly, and it is not a fiery furnace. The Völuspá describes Náströnd, the “shore of corpses”: a hall facing north, far from the sun, whose walls are woven of intertwined serpents whose venom trickles in drops through the roof. To it come oath-breakers, murderers and seducers of other men's wives. And on this shore, the dragon Niðhöggr sucks the bodies of the dead.
