A handle forged like an iron volute

Most barrel tankards settle for a straight handle. This one features a handle worked into a spiral, twisted along its entire length and ending in a curled scroll—the touch of a blacksmith, not a mold. It is what makes the piece feel in the hand like an ancient object rather than a prop.

The body mimics the staves of a hooped barrel, complete with its rivets and weathered wood. Discover it along with the rest of our Viking Tankard collection.

What sets this piece apart

  • A handle sculpted into a volute: twisted along the entire handle, scroll curled at the bottom, hammered finish. No other tankard in our catalog has this design.
  • Stainless steel interior: the cup is made of food-grade steel, independent of the casing. No contact between the drink and the resin.
  • Double-walled: beer stays cold longer and the tankard does not sweat in your hand.
  • 600 ml, the Nordic pint: the size of a real pint, not an office mug.
  • Aged wood effect: the staves, knots, and bands are sculpted in relief into the material, not printed.

Did you know?

Scandinavians of the Viking Age did not turn their vessels from a solid block: they assembled them from staves, exactly like a cooper. The Oseberg ship, buried in 834, yielded buckets assembled in this way, held together by metal bands and equipped with iron handles. One of them even features ornate brass fittings. The stave-built hooped tankard is therefore not a medieval tavern invention: it is a technique that the Vikings had already mastered, and for which evidence has been found in their richest graves.
