A curved ring-pommel blade — and nothing Nordic about it
A wide and heavily curved blade, widening towards the tip, mounted on a brown-wrapped handle ending in a ring pommel from which a red silk tassel hangs. The guard is a simple straight bar.

What sets this piece apart
- The ring pommel: it's the signature. It is found on Far Eastern sabers and blades of the steppes, never on a Scandinavian weapon.
- A blade that widens towards the tip: this profile shifts the mass forward. It is a geometry for pure slashing, the opposite of a thrusting weapon.
- Short format: 48 cm, it is worn on the belt and can be handled with one hand without getting in the way.
- This is not a weapon: no edge, no sharp point. This replica is made for costumes, reenactment, and wall display.

Did you know?
This piece is often called a "medieval axe." It is not one, and it is not European either: the ring pommel and silk tassel belong to the Far Eastern dao and its cousins from the steppes. Furthermore, the ring is not decorative — it was used to attach a lanyard and to balance a blade where all the mass is shifted forward. It is a beautiful piece, but it has no place in a Nordic reenactment, and we prefer to state that rather than pass it off as a Viking weapon.
To learn more, our anatomy of the Viking sword allows you to compare this design with that of a blade truly forged in the North.

Does this scimitar cut?
No. PU foam with a rigid core, no cutting edge: it's a costume and decorative replica.
Is it a Viking weapon?
No. The ring pommel and the silk tassel come from Far Eastern sabers and from the blades of the steppe peoples. No Scandinavian weapon has this shape.
What is the ring on the pommel for?
On the originals, it was used to thread a wrist strap, and to counterbalance a blade whose weight is shifted toward the tip.
How big is it?
About 48 cm overall, with a 33 cm blade. A short size that can be worn on the belt.
