A Dark Bird on a Light Background
This Viking tank top reverses the trend in this category: the raven is black, the background is white. Did you know?
The Scandinavians actually took ravens to sea, but for a practical reason. The Landnámabók recounts that Flóki Vilgerðarson, who set out to find Iceland around 868, brought three consecrated ravens on board: the first one released returned to the ship, the second circled and returned, the third flew straight ahead—and Flóki followed its path to land. There is nothing magical about this method: a land bird released in the middle of the sea will seek the nearest coastline. It was documented among other seafaring peoples long before the Vikings.

Choosing your size
The manufacturer provides no size chart for the tank tops in this range. We would rather tell you so than publish a measurement chart we would have made up.
The method that never fails: take a tank top or a T-shirt you already wear and that fits you well. Lay it flat and measure from one armpit seam to the other. Write this number down: it is your benchmark. You are comparing one garment with another, without going through a theoretical size, and theoretical sizes are precisely what vary from one manufacturer to another.
The cut runs small: narrower in the shoulders and shorter in the body than a European cut of the same size. If you are between two sizes, take the larger one: this is the advice that avoids the most returns.
Available sizes vary by model. Thirteen tank tops go from S to 6XL, two from S to 5XL, and the muscle-cut one stops at 2XL. Check the drop-down list on the product page before ordering: it is the one that counts.
A word about the letters. Beyond XXL, these labels follow no common standard: a 4XL, 5XL or 6XL has no fixed equivalent, and the same letter does not mean the same thing from one manufacturer to another. Do not trust the letter, trust the centimeter.
How does it differ from the black raven model?
It's the same idea in reverse: here the raven is black on a white background, there it's white on a black background. The drawing of the bird isn't the same; this one is more spread out and sits lower on the chest.
What are the faint marks in the background?
Runes and a Vegvísir printed in very light gray on the white — visible up close, invisible from a distance.
Is this white suitable for the gym?
Yes. The polyester dries quickly and can be washed at 30 °C. A light-colored garment simply shows marks more than a dark one: that's the trade-off to accept.
Does the design go all the way down to the hem?
No, it takes up the middle third of the garment. The top and the bottom stay light.
