Two panels of fur and some straps: the leg of the screen warrior
A pair of leg wraps in long-pile faux fur, in a tawny colour. Each piece is a 50 × 32 cm rectangle that you wrap around the calf, fur side out, then fasten with long black straps crossed down to the ankle. Wear them over boots or over the bottom of your trousers.

What sets this piece apart
- An instant silhouette: this is the piece people see from afar. With a simple pair of boots, the leg goes from street clothes to warrior of the North.
- Truly one size: the fur wraps on instead of pulling on; 50 cm across goes round a calf and a boot shaft.
- They keep you warm: at a winter medieval fair or an outdoor shoot, that is two more layers on your legs.
To complete the look, see our Viking Trousers in Cotton and Linen, whose laced calves slip underneath.

Did you know?
The Vikings held their lower legs with woollen bands wound from the instep to just below the knee: leg wraps. The bog at Skjoldehamn, in northern Norway, preserved a set along with the rest of a complete 11th-century outfit, hood, tunic and trousers included. Fur was mostly used to line cloaks and keep out the cold of the night; long-pile leg wraps tied over boots are a television image, and that image is why people wear them.
To explore further, our comparison of the Vikings series and real history separates screen costume from period dress, and our calendar of Viking fairs and festivals tells you where to wear them.

Is it real fur?
No: long-pile polyester faux fur, in a tawny colour.
How do I put them on?
Wrap each piece around the calf, fur side out, then cross the straps down to the ankle and tie them.
Are they one size?
Yes: each piece measures 50 × 32 cm and wraps on instead of pulling on. The straps adjust the fit over a bare calf, trousers or a boot shaft.
Can I wear them with shoes?
Yes, they tie over boots or high-top shoes, which stay visible underneath.
Did the Vikings wear fur on their legs?
They mostly wore woollen bands wound around the calf. Fur lined cloaks; long-pile leg wraps come from television series.
