Gold Ribbons on a Scale Background
This Viking sweatshirt abandons figures to focus solely on the movement: large, golden Norse interlace patterns filled with turquoise, starting from the left shoulder and descending diagonally across the chest. The black background is textured with a very dark scale pattern, perceptible only up close. Find it in our Viking sweatshirt collection.
For the same interlace vocabulary but in a symmetrical composition, see the black and white model.
What Sets This Sweatshirt Apart
A diagonal composition requires a precise design: if poorly placed, it looks like a pattern that has slipped.
- Asymmetrical framing: the only one in the range that doesn't center its motif. The design follows the line of the shoulder rather than settling in the middle of the chest.
- Two non-overlapping inks: the gold defines, the turquoise fills. The interlace remains legible even at its crossings.
- Textured background: the dark scales avoid the flat black of quick prints, without ever competing with the main design.
- No figure: no animal, no face, no skull — a rare choice for this type of garment, and the easiest to wear.
If you prefer a golden motif featuring a figure, the golden raven treats gold in a comparable way.

Did you know?
What is called "Viking interlace" is not a single style but a succession of six styles that archaeologists have learned to date: Oseberg, Borre, Jelling, Mammen, Ringerike, and Urnes, from the 8th to the 12th century. It evolves from compact, dense animals with limbs caught in ribbons, to increasingly long and thread-like creatures, leading up to the Urnes style where the animal's body is almost nothing more than a line. An archaeologist can date an object within a few decades just by the way its ribbons cross.

Which print style to choose?
| Print type | What it looks like | When to choose it |
|---|---|---|
| Placed design | The body of the sweatshirt stays plain: the design is limited to the chest, the sleeves and the back. | When you want to wear the garment without the design ruling your day. It is also the only model available in fourteen color and ink combinations. |
| All-over print this product | The fabric is printed before assembly: front, back, sleeves, hood and right up to the seams. | When the garment is meant to be seen. Fifteen different designs, all in polyester, from 2XS to 4XL. |
| All-over print, finer artwork | The same full coverage, but a more detailed drawing and an acrylic, polyester and elastane knit. | When you look at a garment up close before buying it, or if polyester alone feels too stiff. Sizes up to 5XL, and up to 6XL for the zip-up model. |
Choosing your size
The manufacturer provides no size chart for the sweatshirts in this range. We would rather tell you so than publish a measurement chart we would have made up.
The method that never fails: take a sweatshirt you already wear and that fits you well. Lay it flat and measure from one armpit seam to the other. Write this number down: it is your benchmark. You are comparing one garment with another, without going through a theoretical size, and theoretical sizes are precisely what vary from one manufacturer to another.
The cut runs small: narrower in the shoulders and shorter in the body than a European cut of the same size. If you are between two sizes, take the larger one: this is the advice that avoids the most returns.
A word about the letters. Beyond XXL, these labels follow no common standard: a 4XL, 5XL or 6XL has no fixed equivalent, and the same letter does not mean the same thing from one manufacturer to another. Do not trust the letter, trust the centimeter.
Is the design centered?
No. The composition starts at the left shoulder and runs diagonally down toward the chest, which gives the garment a sense of movement that centered designs lack.
Do the gold and turquoise blend together?
They alternate. The gold ribbons carry the structure of the knot, and the turquoise fills the spaces between them. No area mixes the two inks.
Is the background plain black?
Almost: it is textured with a very dark scale pattern, visible only up close. From a distance, the background reads as solid black.
Does the design continue onto the sleeve?
Yes, on the left sleeve only, continuing from the shoulder. The right sleeve stays dark.
