Fa-la-la-la Valhalla-la
This Viking Christmas sweatshirt mimics Norwegian knitwear: geometric bands, snowflakes, stylized reindeer, and in the center, a bearded, helmeted warrior with crossed axes on his back, framed by the inscription that gives the garment its name. A red, green, and ecru palette on a black background. Find it in our Viking sweatshirt collection.
For a piece from the same family but without the irony, see the crossed axes model.
What Sets This Sweatshirt Apart
A failed Christmas sweater is an ugly Christmas sweater. This one works because it respects the grammar of the knit it imitates.
- True band construction: the friezes are stacked like a Norwegian jacquard, with a main pattern in the center and secondary bands above and below.
- The only one in the department that doesn't take itself seriously: twenty-five models play the warrior card; this one plays the holiday season.
- Seasonal palette: red and green on black, the classic Christmas combination, adapted to Nordic vocabulary rather than the Christmas tree.
- A clear gift: it's the piece in the department that doesn't need to be explained to the person receiving it.
To give something more timeless, the solid-color model in fourteen shades can be worn all year round.

Did you know?
The word jól did indeed refer to a pre-Christian Scandinavian festival, mentioned in sources as a time of feasting in the heart of winter. But the idea of a complete "Viking Christmas" is largely a modern reconstruction: the Heimskringla recounts that King Haakon the Good, in the 10th century, moved the date of jól to coincide with Christmas — a sign that the two festivals were still distinct, and that the merger was a political decision, not a natural continuity.

Which print style to choose?
| Print type | What it looks like | When to choose it |
|---|---|---|
| Placed design | The body of the sweatshirt stays plain: the design is limited to the chest, the sleeves and the back. | When you want to wear the garment without the design ruling your day. It is also the only model available in fourteen color and ink combinations. |
| All-over print this product | The fabric is printed before assembly: front, back, sleeves, hood and right up to the seams. | When the garment is meant to be seen. Fifteen different designs, all in polyester, from 2XS to 4XL. |
| All-over print, finer artwork | The same full coverage, but a more detailed drawing and an acrylic, polyester and elastane knit. | When you look at a garment up close before buying it, or if polyester alone feels too stiff. Sizes up to 5XL, and up to 6XL for the zip-up model. |
Choosing your size
The manufacturer provides no size chart for the sweatshirts in this range. We would rather tell you so than publish a measurement chart we would have made up.
The method that never fails: take a sweatshirt you already wear and that fits you well. Lay it flat and measure from one armpit seam to the other. Write this number down: it is your benchmark. You are comparing one garment with another, without going through a theoretical size, and theoretical sizes are precisely what vary from one manufacturer to another.
The cut runs small: narrower in the shoulders and shorter in the body than a European cut of the same size. If you are between two sizes, take the larger one: this is the advice that avoids the most returns.
A word about the letters. Beyond XXL, these labels follow no common standard: a 4XL, 5XL or 6XL has no fixed equivalent, and the same letter does not mean the same thing from one manufacturer to another. Do not trust the letter, trust the centimeter.
Is the jacquard pattern knitted or printed?
Printed. The garment imitates the look of a Norwegian knit — geometric bands, snowflakes, reindeer — but the surface is that of a smooth sweatshirt, with no knit texture.
What does the lettering say?
The inscription reads “Fa-la-la-la Valhalla-la”, which is a playful twist on the familiar refrain of the traditional English Christmas carol. It is laid out over two lines, one line on either side of the central figure.
Is it a garment just for December?
The design is clearly seasonal: bands of snowflakes, a red and green palette on a black background. You can wear it beyond December, but it fully owns its theme.
Is the central figure a Santa Claus?
It is a bearded, helmeted warrior with crossed axes behind him, drawn in the style of the figures on Nordic sweaters. The resemblance to Santa Claus is intentional, but the figure remains a Viking.
