The Only One That Opens
This zippered Viking hoodie is the only model in our range that opens completely down the front. Featuring a dark red background marbled with black, a Vegvísir on each side of the chest, and a large Ægishjálmur—the Helm of Awe—on the back, accompanied by a raven in flight. Ten sizes, from XS to 6XL. Find it in our Viking hoodie collection.
For a pullover model in the same red and black palette, see the confronting dragons model.
What Sets This Hoodie Apart
On a zippered garment, the front design is cut in two: the composition must account for this from the initial drawing stage.
- One design per side: Rather than a central motif sliced by the zipper, each panel bears its own Vegvísir—the closure cuts through nothing.
- The back as the main canvas: The Ægishjálmur and raven occupy the entire back, the only continuous area of an open garment.
- Ten sizes: From XS to 6XL, the widest range in the department, two sizes larger than most models.
- Lightweight knit: Finer than the other hoodies in the selection, suitable for mid-season wear and layering.
For the Helm of Awe as a standalone symbol, see the black and white Vegvísir.

Did you know?
The Ægishjálmur did not originally refer to a symbol, but to an object in a story: in the Fáfnismál, the dragon Fáfnir boasts of wearing the œgishjalmr, the "Helm of Awe," which ensures the fear of all living things—and Sigurd takes it from him after killing him. The eight-branched design we know today did not appear until 17th-century Icelandic grimoires, more than four hundred years after the poem. The name is ancient, the form is late: the two only met very recently.

Which print style to choose?
| Print type | What it looks like | When to choose it |
|---|---|---|
| Placed design | The body of the sweatshirt stays plain: the design is limited to the chest, the sleeves and the back. | When you want to wear the garment without the design ruling your day. It is also the only model available in fourteen color and ink combinations. |
| All-over print | The fabric is printed before assembly: front, back, sleeves, hood and right up to the seams. | When the garment is meant to be seen. Fifteen different designs, all in polyester, from 2XS to 4XL. |
| All-over print, finer artwork this product | The same full coverage, but a more detailed drawing and an acrylic, polyester and elastane knit. | When you look at a garment up close before buying it, or if polyester alone feels too stiff. Sizes up to 5XL, and up to 6XL for the zip-up model. |
Choosing your size
The manufacturer provides no size chart for the sweatshirts in this range. We would rather tell you so than publish a measurement chart we would have made up.
The method that never fails: take a sweatshirt you already wear and that fits you well. Lay it flat and measure from one armpit seam to the other. Write this number down: it is your benchmark. You are comparing one garment with another, without going through a theoretical size, and theoretical sizes are precisely what vary from one manufacturer to another.
The cut runs small: narrower in the shoulders and shorter in the body than a European cut of the same size. If you are between two sizes, take the larger one: this is the advice that avoids the most returns.
A word about the letters. Beyond XXL, these labels follow no common standard: a 4XL, 5XL or 6XL has no fixed equivalent, and the same letter does not mean the same thing from one manufacturer to another. Do not trust the letter, trust the centimeter.
How does it differ from the other sweatshirts in this section?
It's the only zip-up model: it opens all the way down the front, whereas the other twenty-five are pulled on over the head.
What symbols does it feature?
Three: a Vegvísir on each side of the chest, an Ægishjálmur — the helm of awe — in the center of the back, and a raven in flight alongside it.
Is the knit thick?
No, it's a lighter model than the others in this section, meant more for spring and fall than for winter.
What sizes does it go up to?
From XS to 6XL, ten sizes in all — the widest range in the entire sweatshirt section.
