A Raven Encircled by Runes
This Viking raven t-shirt features Odin's bird within a circle of runes rendered in grey and beige, with detailed line-work plumage and an open beak. It is the only model in this section offered in black or navy blue, with the same design on both. Find this model in our Viking t-shirt collection.
For a raven rendered in luminous blue rather than grey, see the blue raven with spread wings.
What Sets This T-Shirt Apart
Offering two colors for the same design requires a drawing that works on both backgrounds—many prints fail this test.
- Two colors: black or navy blue, your choice: it is one of only three models in the shop to offer a true color option.
- Grey and beige: a neutral palette that stands out equally well on black as it does on blue, whereas pure white would overwhelm the navy blue.
- Circle of runes: the wreath closes the composition and provides scale: the motif reads as a medallion, not as a floating vignette.
- Cotton: soft knit, natural drape, and a navy blue hue that holds better on cotton than on synthetic material.
If you are looking for the raven associated with the word Valhalla, the raven with blue runes pushes the blue much further.
Choosing Your Size
The manufacturer does not provide a measurement chart for this model. Rather than leaving you without a reference, here is an estimated range, calculated from the two adult grids documented for other models in the department. These are orders of magnitude, not guaranteed measurements—we prefer to be upfront about that.
| Size | Flat Width | Chest Circumference |
|---|---|---|
| S | 49 to 51 cm | 98 to 102 cm |
| M | 51 to 54 cm | 102 to 108 cm |
| L | 53 to 57 cm | 106 to 114 cm |
| XL | 55 to 60 cm | 110 to 120 cm |
| 2XL | 57 to 63 cm | 114 to 126 cm |
| 3XL | 59 to 66 cm | 118 to 132 cm |
| 4XL | 61 to 69 cm | 122 to 138 cm |
| 5XL | 63 to 72 cm | 126 to 144 cm |
| 6XL | 65 to 75 cm | 130 to 150 cm |
The range widens for larger sizes because the two known grids diverge starting from XL: one progresses by 4 cm per size, the other by 6.
The foolproof method: take a t-shirt you already own that fits you well. Lay it flat and measure from one armpit seam to the other. Enter this number into the Flat Width column: no calculations needed. This way, you are comparing garment to garment, without relying on a theoretical size—and it is precisely these theoretical sizes that vary from one manufacturer to another.
The fit runs small, with narrower shoulders and a shorter body than a European cut of equivalent size. When between two sizes, choose the larger one: this is the advice that prevents the most returns.
A word on the letters. These sizes follow a specific nomenclature, and beyond XXL, standard Western ready-to-wear practically doesn't use them: a 4XL, 5XL, or 6XL does not correspond to any common standard size. Worse, the same letter does not mean the same thing from one manufacturer to another: in this section, an "L" can range from 94 to 112 cm in chest circumference depending on the model. Do not trust the letter, trust the centimeter.

Did you know?
Ravens served as navigation instruments, and the history is recorded in the Landnámabók. Around 868, the Norwegian Flóki Vilgerðarson brought three ravens on board to find the land said to exist to the northwest. The first one released returned to the ship: nothing ahead. The second flew up, circled, and returned: still nothing. The third flew straight ahead and did not return—Flóki set his course in that direction and reached Iceland. He kept the nickname Hrafna-Flóki, Flóki-of-the-Ravens, from it. The method is in no way magical: a land bird released in the open sea flies toward the nearest land, and Phoenician as well as Indian sailors used this technique already.

What is the difference between the black and the navy blue?
Only the color of the garment: the gray and beige design is identical on both. The navy blue is a deep blue, not a bright blue.
Did the Vikings really use ravens at sea?
Yes. The Landnámabók tells how Flóki Vilgerðarson released three ravens to find Iceland around 868: the third flew straight ahead and he followed it. He was nicknamed Hrafna-Flóki, Raven-Flóki.
Is the design printed on the back?
No, only on the chest. The back is plain.
How do I choose my size?
This model goes from S to 6XL and runs small, like the whole section. Measure a T-shirt you already wear and compare using the method explained above.
