Viking Vegvísir & Longship Prow Tapestry — Midnight Blue

The Vegvísir, an eight-branched runic compass, occupies the center of the piece, framed by two longship prows rising into dragon heads. Two interlaced beasts close the composition at the bottom, against a midnight blue background veined with runes.

The story behind the motif

The Vegvísir appears in the Huld, a 19th-century Icelandic manuscript, with this promise: the one who carries it will not lose their way in a storm, even if they do not know where they are going. The symbol is therefore late—but the need it expresses is as old as Nordic navigation.

Where to hang it

On the wall, of course, but also as a headboard, a room divider, stretched across the ceiling, or draped over a sofa. Large formats cover an entire wall; small ones are easy to frame.
