What Sets This Pair Apart

- Deep engraving: the grooves between the feathers are carved much deeper than usual, giving it a relief visible even in flat light.
- Angled wing: the tilt follows the line of the earlobe and visually elongates the ear.

Did you know?
The most famous winged object in Norse mythology belongs to neither an angel nor a valkyrie: it is Freyja's feather cloak, the fjaðrhamr, literally "feather-skin." It allows whoever wears it to fly between worlds — and in the texts, it is almost always Loki who borrows it. In the Þrymskviða, when Thor wakes up without his hammer, it is Loki who retrieves the cloak from Freyja and flies to the land of the giants to investigate. Valkyries, however, have no wings in the original sources: they ride horses. Wings were grafted onto them by 19th-century Romantic imagery, along with horned helmets.

Why is this model more expensive than the other studs?
The engraving of the feathers is noticeably deeper and the blackening adds a finishing step. It is the most detailed stud in our range, and the price reflects the work.
Did Valkyries have wings?
No, in the texts they ride on horseback. The feather cloak does exist, but it belongs to Freyja, and it is Loki who borrows it. Valkyrie wings date from the 19th century.
Does the blackened finish last?
Yes, it is created on the metal itself. The exposed edges may lighten very gradually, which heightens the contrast with the recesses.
How big is the wing?
About one and a half centimeters long. It covers a good part of the earlobe without extending past it, and is easy to make out from a distance thanks to the dark contrast.
