Thor's Hammer, Engraved With The Vegvísir
These Mjölnir earrings suspend Thor’s hammer from a hinged hoop. The head of the weapon bears an eight-armed Vegvísir engraved within a circle, and the handle is covered in interlace patterns. This is the most symbol-rich piece in the collection, and the only one that combines these two motifs. Find this product in our viking earrings collection.
The same hammer is available in a version that sits on the lobe: our Mjölnir studs, without pendants or hoops.
What Sets This Pair Apart
A two-tier pendant must remain legible without becoming cumbersome.
- Hinged hoop: The ring closes with a click, with no backings to lose or pins to align.
- Double engraving: Vegvísir in the center of the head, interlace on the handle — two levels of detail on a single piece.
- Mobile hammer: The pendant pivots on its ring, so it always hangs straight regardless of movement.
- Stainless steel: The grooves of the engraving remain sharp, without blackening in the corners.
For the Vegvísir alone, without the hammer, our blackened Vegvísir hoops focus entirely on the symbol.

Did you know?
Today, there are about a thousand known Thor's hammer amulets, scattered from Iceland to Russia. Only one bears an inscription, and it is recent: discovered in 2014 in Købelev, on the Danish island of Lolland, a 10th-century bronze amulet bears the runic inscription hmar x is — "this is a hammer." This find settled a debate over a century old: archaeologists were discussing whether these pendants really represented Mjölnir or a simple stylized cross. It took a Viking craftsman taking the trouble to write it himself on the object to settle it.

Is the Vegvísir really a Viking symbol?
No, and we would rather say so. It first appears in an Icelandic grimoire manuscript dated 1860, some eight centuries after the Viking Age. Mjölnir, on the other hand, is thoroughly attested by archaeology.
Does the hammer move all the time?
It swivels freely on its ring, so it follows your movements and always settles back to hang straight. That is intentional: a fixed pendant always ends up sitting crooked.
What is the total length?
About three and a half centimeters, hoop included. It is the longest size in our earring range, designed to be visible with short or tied-back hair.
Is the hinge sturdy?
Yes. It is stainless steel like the rest and snaps shut. It is the most reliable system for a hoop: no small part to lose, no post to line up in the dark.
