A Red Stone Held Between Points
These red zircon stud earrings grip the stone between tapered prongs that radiate around it like the points of a star. The look is more aggressive than a classic four-prong setting: the points show, and they are part of the design. Find this product in our Viking earrings collection.

What Sets This Pair Apart
Red is the hardest color to get right on a small stone: too light and it turns pink, too dark and it goes black.
- Radiating prongs: they hold the stone and draw the pattern at the same time, instead of disappearing under the setting.
- Faceted stone: the cut returns light in crisp flashes rather than a flat reflection.
- Push-back clasp: classic hold, straight post and push-on back.
- Stainless steel: the setting keeps its cool shine and doesn't pit.
If you want this red paired with a figurative motif, our red-eyed skull studs use the same stone for the eyes.

Did You Know?
The red in Northern jewelry did not come from a local stone: it came from garnet, and from very far away. Goldsmiths of the early Middle Ages in Northern Europe cut thin garnet plates and set them into gold cells — the cloisonné technique. Analyses of the Sutton Hoo treasure, in England, have traced these stones back to their source: they came mostly from India and Sri Lanka. In other words, a belt buckle buried on the east coast of England in the 7th century contained minerals that had crossed half the known world. Red was expensive, and it showed.

Do the prongs catch on clothing?
The tips point toward the stone, not outward, so they do not snag on knits. A very loosely knit wool scarf is the only case where you need to be careful, as with any set jewelry.
Is the red bright or dark?
It is a clear, true red, closer to ruby than to dark garnet. Under direct light the stone becomes noticeably brighter; indoors it takes on a darker depth.
Can men wear this model?
Yes, in fact it is one of the most common uses of the red-stone stud. The size stays small and the pointed setting gives it a rather stark character, far from ornate jewelry.
Can I keep them on in the shower?
Yes. Stainless steel is not affected by water, and neither is the synthetic stone. The only risk is limescale and soap building up in the setting, which dulls the sparkle: a rinse and a wipe with a dry cloth take care of that.
