A Faceted Black Stone, Four Claws, Nothing Else
These black zircon stud earrings are the most understated model in our stone-set category: a round, faceted black stone, held by four claws on a bare setting. Faceted black has the rare advantage of reflecting light while remaining discreet. Find this product in our Viking earrings collection.
The same bare setting is available in a light shade: our round pink zircon studs.
What Sets This Pair Apart
Black is the only color that never goes out of style and never clashes with anything.
- Faceted stone: the facets create dark, brilliant flashes that prevent the stone from being just a dull dot.
- Four thin claws: the minimum required for grip, the maximum of visible stone.
- Push-back clasp: straight post, back clutch; the stud sits flat against the earlobe.
- Stainless steel: the contrast between the light metal and the black stone does not fade over time.
For black featured on a figurative motif, see our small blackened skull studs.

Did you know?
The black stone of European jewelers is called jet, and its history directly intersects with that of the Vikings. It is fossilized wood, soft enough to be carved with a knife and polished to a mirror finish, and the best deposit in Europe is found on the Yorkshire coast, around Whitby. Now, just a few dozen kilometers away was Jórvík — York, capital of the Danish kingdom of England. Excavations in the Coppergate district unearthed actual workshops: raw blocks, scraps, rough drafts, and failed pieces of jet, alongside worked amber and bone. The craftsmen of Viking York therefore carved black rings and pendants from fossilized coal gathered on the nearby cliffs.

Does the black stone shine or is it matte?
It is faceted, so it gives off dark glints of light. It is a lively black, very different from a lacquered surface that would absorb everything.
Is this model suitable for work?
It is one of the most understated in the range: black stone, plain setting, small size. It goes anywhere, including the most formal environments.
Did the Vikings work with a black stone?
Yes, jet — fossilized wood gathered on the Yorkshire coast. Excavations in York, the Danish capital of England, have uncovered entire workshops, complete with offcuts and rough-outs.
Can the color fade?
No, the color runs through the whole synthetic stone. What dulls it is a buildup of skin oil on the surface: warm soapy water is enough to remove it.
