Two Dragons Face to Face, and Not a Millimeter of Empty Space
No smooth surfaces on this piece: the entire cup is covered in a tangle of bodies, wings, and interlacing patterns from which emerge two confronting dragons, maws open towards one another. The stem continues the same braiding down to the base. A uniform copper patina gives the whole piece an appearance of carved wood rather than metal. 200 ml. Find it among our Viking chalices.
What Distinguishes This Piece
- Double-walled: a sculpted resin outer shell and a removable food-grade stainless steel inner cup. Your drink only touches the metal.
- Integral sculpture: not a single flat area, from the rim to the base. This is the piece with the densest relief in the collection.
- Perfect symmetry: the two dragons mirror each other exactly, creating an obvious front side.
- Copper patina: warmer than our bronzes, it visually brings the piece closer to patinated wood.
- Hand-applied patina: the recesses remain dark, while the edges catch the light. No two copies are ever strictly identical.

Did you know?
Two confronting beasts whose bodies braid together: this is the signature of the Borre style, one of the great styles of Scandinavian art, in vogue from the late 9th to the 10th century. It is recognized by two motifs: the gripping beast, a crouching animal that clutches the frame and its own tail with its paws, and the ring-chain, a ribbon of interlaced rings filling all available space. The horror vacui (fear of empty space) is absolute: for the craftsmen of Borre, a bare surface is an unfinished surface.

Dragon, skull or warrior: which design to choose?
| Design | What the cup shows | Who to give it to |
|---|---|---|
| Dragon this product | Body coiled around the stem, wings spread, set gem; from smooth low relief to full sculpture | The widest and most crowd-pleasing choice: fantasy fans, gamers, collectors |
| Skull and bones | Curled horns, membranous wings, stacked vertebrae, friezes of small skulls | For a dark decor you already embrace, and for autumn and Halloween tables |
| Warrior and helmet | Bearded face or nasal helm in high relief, crossed axes, knotwork at the foot | The most understated and most historical register: saga readers, fans of Viking series |
| Raven | Red-eyed bird perched on a skull, frieze of feathers and small bones | A targeted gift, for someone who recognizes Huginn and Muninn without being told their names |
| Goat and pentagram | Baphomet head inside a pentagram on a red background, frieze of skulls | An occult, non-Norse register, for those who embrace this imagery; 600 ml, a 500 ml bottle plus the head |
Is it wood?
No, despite appearances. It is sculpted resin with a copper patina, lined with a removable food-grade stainless steel liner.
Is the relief comfortable to hold?
It is dense but entirely rounded, with no sharp edges. The braiding on the stem even provides an excellent grip.
What is the capacity?
About 200 ml, with a weight of 500 g empty.
How do I clean such ornate decoration?
The steel liner holds the drink and is washed on its own, by hand. For the outside, use a damp cloth and a soft-bristled brush in the recesses of the braiding.
