A Dragon Pursuing a Pearl

A wingless, serpentine dragon emerges from a bank of sculpted clouds and turns back toward an iridescent gem set into its belly. Its body spirals down the stem to the flared base. The cup features a sand-grain texture, while the clouds are rendered in smooth relief. 200 ml, in cream gold or bronze. Find it among our Viking chalices.

What Sets This Piece Apart

  • Double wall: an outer shell of sculpted resin and a removable inner food-grade stainless steel cup. Your drink only touches metal.
  • Two textures: granulated belly against polished clouds. The contrast carries the entire design, with no need for color.
  • Dragon-body stem: the spiral of the body forms the base, creating an unusual, twisted silhouette.
  • Iridescent gem: it changes hue depending on the angle, the only shiny point on the piece.
  • Hand-applied patina: the recesses remain dark, while the edges catch the light. No two pieces are ever exactly identical.

Did you know?

This gem is not purely decorative: it is the flaming pearl, a constant attribute of the Far Eastern dragon. It is almost always depicted pursuing it or holding it under its claw. Interpretations vary—wisdom, prosperity, thunder, or the moon itself—but all portray it as the object the dragon desires but never quite possesses. A motif that has spanned two thousand years of Far Eastern art, from Han bronzes to the imperial robes of the Qing.
