Three Circling Ravens

This Viking tank top is the most detailed in the series: in the center of the chest, a medallion where three ravens coil into a triskelion; above it, a dragon head with its maw open; surrounding it, three Valknut symbols in a triangle; and on the sides, two columns of runes that descend from the armpit to the hem. Black line on white. Find it in our Viking tank top collection.

For a clear but more airy composition, see the two-raven model.

What Sets This Tank Top Apart

On a sleeveless garment, the available surface area is limited: fitting five elements into it without overcrowding them requires real composition.

  • Utilized sides: the columns of runes use the only vertical area that other models leave empty.
  • Three birds in one motif: the bodies coil together without losing the silhouette of any individual bird—a test this type of figure often fails.
  • A design tailored for the cut: the medallion remains above the waistband, the dragon head below the collar.
  • White background: one of the three light-colored pieces in our selection.

For a similarly detailed animal motif but on a black background, see the confronting warriors model.

Did you know?

The three-pronged rotating figure is not unique to ravens: it is found in Scandinavia in the form of the triskelion of horns, three intertwined drinking horns, notably engraved on the Snoldelev Stone in Denmark, dating back to the 9th century. Snorri recounts that Odin drank the mead of poetry in three gulps, from three vessels—Óðrœrir, Boðn, and Són. Linking the motif to this narrative has long been suggested, though no source confirms it: it remains an appealing hypothesis, not a certain interpretation.

Which tank top to choose?

TypeWhat it looks likeWhen to choose it
All-over print, black and white this productThe design covers the whole garment, front and back, in two bold tones without color. The core of the range: nine designs, from S to 6XL, the widest size range of the three families.
All-over print, gold or colorThe same full coverage, but with gold, brick red or slate blue. When the garment is meant to be seen. Four models, the most striking in the series, and the only ones that go beyond black and white.
Stretch knit or muscle cutTwo models whose knit contains elastane and moves with you, plus one muscle-cut model that covers the shoulder. When the garment is really for training, or if thin straps don't suit you. Note: the muscle cut stops at 2XL.

Choosing your size

The manufacturer provides no size chart for the tank tops in this range. We would rather tell you so than publish a measurement chart we would have made up.

The method that never fails: take a tank top or a T-shirt you already wear and that fits you well. Lay it flat and measure from one armpit seam to the other. Write this number down: it is your benchmark. You are comparing one garment with another, without going through a theoretical size, and theoretical sizes are precisely what vary from one manufacturer to another.

The cut runs small: narrower in the shoulders and shorter in the body than a European cut of the same size. If you are between two sizes, take the larger one: this is the advice that avoids the most returns.

Available sizes vary by model. Thirteen tank tops go from S to 6XL, two from S to 5XL, and the muscle-cut one stops at 2XL. Check the drop-down list on the product page before ordering: it is the one that counts.

A word about the letters. Beyond XXL, these labels follow no common standard: a 4XL, 5XL or 6XL has no fixed equivalent, and the same letter does not mean the same thing from one manufacturer to another. Do not trust the letter, trust the centimeter.
