A Frieze of Skulls on a Wide Ring
This skull ear cuff doesn't settle for a single motif: dozens of small embossed heads cover the entire width of the ring in three stacked rows. The piece clips onto the cartilage and covers a significant surface area, unlike most cuffs which are reduced to a simple wire. Find this product in our Viking earrings collection.
The same motif treated as a classic hoop can be found on our skull hoops, where the frieze runs along a thin ring.
What Sets This Piece Apart
A wide cuff must remain lightweight, or it will slip.
- Three rows of skulls: the pattern repeats without ever overlapping, keeping the surface legible despite the density.
- Openwork ring: material is removed between the heads, so the width does not come at the cost of weight on the cartilage.
- No piercing needed: the clip adjusts with your fingertips and can be removed instantly.
- Stainless steel: the numerous recesses in the pattern do not accumulate oxidation.
For the same width with no motif, the three-ring twisted ear cuff occupies the same space.

Did you know?
Here is a paradox of our category, and we prefer to state it plainly: the Vikings practically did not wear earrings. Scandinavian excavations yield thousands of fibulae, pearl necklaces, bracelets, and silver torcs — but almost no earrings. Jewelry was not part of their dress code. The rare known examples come from the east, among the Rus' settled along the Volga and Dnieper, where permanent contact with the Slavic and Byzantine worlds influenced fashion. In other words, when you wear a "Viking" earring, you are wearing an object that is Nordic in motif and Mediterranean in form. It is a hybridization, and it is intentional.

Is this ear cuff heavy on the cartilage?
No, despite its width: the ring is hollowed out between the skulls, which removes a lot of material. It weighs barely more than a thin cuff of the same diameter.
How many skulls are in the pattern?
Around thirty, spread over three rows around the ring. They are small enough to form a texture from a distance and sharp enough to be made out one by one up close.
Can it be worn with a regular earring on the same ear?
Yes, that is actually the most common way to wear it: the cuff sits on the cartilage, the earring stays on the lobe. The two do not get in each other's way.
Did the Vikings wear this kind of jewelry?
Hardly at all, in fact. Earrings are almost absent from Scandinavian excavations, except among the Rus' in the East. This is a modern, Norse-inspired piece, and we would rather say so than let you believe otherwise.
