The long dress of medieval fairs, simple to wear and easy to build on

A long dress with long sleeves, fitted at the bust then flared down to the ankles, in the spirit of the underdresses worn by the women of the North. Four colours to choose from, burgundy, blue, green or grey, and eight sizes, from S to 5XL.

The dress is sold on its own, without belt or accessories. To complete the outfit, see our Wide Viking Belt with Knotwork and our Viking Belt Pouch.

Find it in our Viking clothing section.

What sets this piece apart

  • A cut that suits everyone: fitted at the top, full at the bottom, it can be worn alone, belted or under a cloak.
  • Eight sizes: from S, for a 96 cm bust, to 5XL, for 131 cm.
  • A base to build on: a belt, a pouch, a brooch or a cloak is all it takes to turn a simple dress into a full outfit.

For cool evenings, add our Burgundy Medieval Hooded Cloak.

Did you know?

The best-known women's outfit of the Viking Age was worn in two layers. Underneath, a long dress of linen or wool with long sleeves; over it, an apron dress, today called smokkr or hangerok, held on the chest by two bronze oval brooches. These brooches are found in pairs in women's graves, from Norway to Birka in Sweden, often linked by strings of glass beads. A dress like this one plays the part of the first layer: wear it alone, or add an apron over it.

To explore further, our article on Viking daily life covers the rest of the wardrobe, and our calendar of Viking fairs and festivals tells you where to wear it.
