A cut-out head and a back spike — a gaming axe, not an archaeological find
A silver-colored head with a cut-out crescent moon, extended at the back by a conical spike significantly longer than the cutting edge. The handle is brown, ringed with red bands below the head, and ends in a pommel wrapped in padded leather.

What sets this piece apart
- The spike outweighs the blade: the dorsal point is longer than the head itself. This is a design imbalance typical of video game weapons, not real tools.
- A cut-out head: the hollowed-out crescent lightens the head and defines the silhouette. No historical axe was pierced in this way — metal was too precious for that.
- The padded handle: the pommel is wrapped in quilted leather, a rare finishing detail at this scale.
- It is not a weapon: there is no edge and no sharp point. This replica is made for costumes, reenactment, and wall display.

Did you know?
The tomahawk gets its name from the Algonquin word tamahaak, and the object has a real and documented history: a weapon and tool of the peoples of eastern North America, initially with a stone head, then with European trade iron starting in the 17th century. The shape this replica takes — cut-out head, long dorsal spike — belongs neither to this tradition nor to Scandinavian archaeology: it is a contemporary design from games and cinema. The Viking axe, for its part, never has a spike: against chainmail and wooden shields, a point provided no advantage.
To learn more, our guide to Viking axes details the forms actually attested in the North, for comparison with this one.

Does this tomahawk cut?
No. PU foam with a rigid core and no cutting edge: it is a costume and decorative replica.
Is the spike on the back of the head historical?
Not in this form. Back spikes and beaks appear in the European late Middle Ages to counter plate armor — never on a Scandinavian axe.
Where does the word “tomahawk” come from?
From the Algonquian tamahaak. The real object is the weapon-tool of the peoples of eastern North America, first with a stone head, then with a European iron head.
Is there a brand printed on the handle?
Yes, a small manufacturer's logo appears on the shaft, below the head. It is visible in the photos.
