A Bone-Colored Dragon on a Black Background

The contrast is striking: a skeletal dragon head, rendered in a creamy bone tone, stands out against a matte black cup edged with interlacing patterns. Ribs and vertebrae wind up the sides, and a cord of bones encircles the neck. The black stem, ringed with light-colored bands, opens onto a base with a bony frieze. Find it in our collection of Viking goblets.

What Sets This Piece Apart

  • Double-walled: an outer shell of sculpted resin and a removable food-grade stainless steel inner cup. Your drink only touches the metal.
  • Bold two-tone: matte black against satin bone, with no gradient. It is the most readable design from a distance.
  • Sculpted anatomy: the jaw, eye sockets, and vertebrae are treated separately, with actual indentations.
  • Matte cup: the black does not reflect light, which makes the light-colored relief stand out.
  • Hand-applied patina: the recesses remain dark, while the edges catch the light. No two pieces are ever exactly identical.

Did you know?

In the North, bone and antler were everyday materials rather than macabre curiosities. They were used to make combs—the object most frequently found in graves—but also tool handles, pins, engraved box panels, and ice skates, or isleggir, carved from horse metapodials and attached to footwear. People did not skate by pushing off blades like today, but by propelling themselves with an iron-tipped staff.
